JLT FINAL (4).jpg

Materials and Techniques

For Salika Virji, the process of creating art is as captivating as the final piece itself. She is especially drawn to the world of paper—its texture, its versatility, and its quiet elegance. It is here that her ideas take shape, guided by a combination of instinct and intention.

Using watercolors and inks, Salika allows the pigments to flow freely, embracing the unpredictability of the medium. This organic movement is balanced by the deliberate detail of various pens, which she uses to add depth, contrast, and intricate patterning. The interplay of fluid washes and fine lines creates a visual language that is uniquely her own.

Her approach is deeply intuitive—led by feeling, guided by mood, and informed by an inner sense of harmony. Yet, behind this spontaneity lies a strong foundation of technique, allowing her to bring structure to even the most abstract forms. Each piece is a dance between chaos and control, imagination and discipline.

qUIET ALCHEMY

Salika Virji is a multidisciplinary artist with a foundation in textile and surface design, honed during her transformative years at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City—a place she fondly calls the Mecca of learning and adventure. Her time in New York was more than an education; it was an awakening. Immersed in the city’s energy and artistic pulse, Salika discovered her deep love for painting, mixed media, and the boundless possibilities of visual storytelling.

Salika’s work bridges the tangible and the imagined. She creates art that is honest, evocative, and born from the depths of her inner world. Each piece reflects her belief that there is an art to seeing—a way of perceiving that breathes life into a creation and invites the viewer into its soul.

Described as soft yet strong, deeply present, and grounded in self-awareness, Salika approaches her practice with both sensitivity and conviction. Art has been her language since the beginning—a natural extension of who she is. Through her work, she invites others to pause, feel, and reconnect with the magic that exists in both the seen and the unseen.
